I am always intrigued by the questions I face when the concept of Mobile Advertising is introduced. For one it is always generic in nature, and two they are important, for which the answers are very obvious in nature. One of such question is "Do you think people will switch on Bluetooth on their Mobile?" and yet, another is "What is the possibility of virus getting transmitted through Bluetooth network".
My answers have always been simple, "if people don't activate Bluetooth, then we would be out of business, and luckily for us we have been scaling upwards from the last 4 years", and as far as the virus is concerned, "it is common sense to accept messages from known names/servers", and we haven't got any complaints against such transmissions.
On a serious note, what actually is the need of the day is awareness about M-advertising where in by sheer downloading the messages on mobile, the consumer gets access to information and also some interesting deals. And we do our bit of trying to create awareness, next time when you enter a mall, do not fail to notice outdoor banners and standees that prompts users to turn on Bluetooth.
As a small effort we started a thread in linked, professional networking site to check on how many would prefer activating Bluetooth, and it is interesting to see the responses. We welcome suggestions and opinions do check out the Opinion Poll segment of the newsletter |

Marketers bluecast their way into buyers' pockets
YOUR mobile's bluetooth is the next big wisdom for admen and marketers. Step into a mall or temple, and your mobile complements its surroundings with local ads, special offers, merchandise, directions, 'aarti' timings and what have you. All you need is to switch on the cell and 'bluecasting' takes over. While malls are making full use of this proximity marketing - as advertisers call it - retail chains, manufacturers of apparel, consumer durables and banks are also getting connected, writes Abhijeet Mukerjee of Economic Times.
